The HOME was started by the late Abbess of Heong San See Temple, Ven. Chueh Lyan in 1994, to save babies during 1990s. Being Buddhists, the taking of lives goes against the 1st Precept. So saving the babies including the mothers became the project’s mission.
Rev Wei Woo of Thang Hsiang helped out with a donation to kick start the project. So far more than 30 babies have been saved and assured of a bright future.
There was a lapse in the Home’s activities when Rev Lyan Shih, the Home’s then Vice-Chairman started with her Pure Lotus Hospice of Compassion project in 2004. However, the Home’s Chairman, Dato’ Khoo Kay Siang took it upon himself to continue with the project on a case-to-case basis till today, relying on the adoptive parents’ resources for funding.
